Weʼre raising £3,356 to fund building a new school in Rural Cambodia

We are going to build a school

Education was my passport out of poverty as a child. School was my safe place and somewhere my self-confidence was nurtured. Getting a good education changed my life.

That’s why I’m running the Manchester Marathon on Sunday 3rd April in aid of The Sorn Foundation.

Based in Rural Cambodia, the Foundation is changing the lives of women and children, delivering education and community programmes.

Our biggest project to date is to build a school. Yes. We’re building a school! And it costs £3,356 to do that. It will also double up as a Community Centre.

We’ve secured the land and since the land is marshy, we've already raised enough funds to have this infilled. Once completed, construction of the school can begin.

Taking up to four months and comprising two classrooms, one playground, one bathroom with handwashing facilities and a water well- it will have an intake of 35 students. We must beat the rainy season and have it built by then.

Using a local team on the ground and working with volunteers from the village, this project is being built by the community for the community it serves. In the words of Nelson Mandela,

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.

If you're able to, please donate and help us raise all the funds needed to build the school in Takeo Province, Cambodia. The children are currently being taught from a make-shift school in the garden with no shelter. Check out the pictures below. Smiley, happy faces eager to learn. Thank you for reading my fundraising page, Lou x.
